The Molesworth Gallery
  Welcome

Crossroads ~ oil on linen ~ 24 x 22 inches (private collection)

Stillness and isolation lie at the heart of Eugene Conway's paintings. Because human activity is often only suggested by the sense of the viewer watching from the seclusion of a wood or by a deserted road and the eerie anticipation of events yet to unfold, the places he paints function as precursors or after-images of an implied narrative. What at first seem generic scenes are are painted with a deceptive detachment which arrests our attention and focuses it on the commonplace.
Eugene Conway has had four solo exhibitions at the Molesworth Gallery and has established himself as one of Ireland's leading young realist painters. He has been a regular exhibitor at the RHA since 1998 and in 2001 he was awarded the Fergus O'Ryan Memorial Award.

He is participating in a major exhibition of contemporary landscape painting at the Washington Arts Club, Washington DC. in the autumn of 2008.
