My focus is on Dublin's urban spaces north and south of the River Liffey, particularly those that are evocative of the underside of the city. By drawing a grid over a detailed map of Dublin city centre I select a number of small areas to investigate, and absorb their presence by walking around, doing sketches, making colour notes, and taking photographs to find what interests me. It is a type of editing process before I start working on a final painting. I see my work as a form of documentation. I am drawn in particular to those areas of Dublin that have been over-looked by developers or sidestepped by regeneration due to their geographic or social displacement. David Browne |

David Browne was born in 1957 and is a graduate of the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, and the School of Visual Arts, New York. His drawings have been published in The Sunday Tribune, The Sunday Business Post, The Irish Times and The New York Times. This is his fourth solo exhibition at the Molesworth Gallery. He has also shown work regularly at the RHA Annual and the Oireachtas Exhibitions. The exhibition runs until Saturday, April 29th. |
