Pripyat III~ lambda print on dibond, 42 x 60 cm, edition of 5 |
Current ExhibitionPots & Kettles - Nicky LarkinJuly 16th ~ 31st, 2009 This exhibition of photographc prints draws on images created as part of the Pripyat project, an experimental short film funded by the Irish Arts Council and shot by Nicky Larkin in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. It draws the viewer into the abandoned city of Pripyat, which was once home to 50,000 people but was evacuated in 1986 after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The city has remained empty ever since. Pripyat examines the relationship between time, nature and culture in a city that will never be lived in again. The film will be screened as part of the exhibition (running time, 16 minutes). Pripyat was selected for the European Media Art Festival 2008 in Osnabruck, Germany, and the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. The exhibition will also include a new body of photographic works created in Bosnia & Herzegovina, re-visiting a country still scarred and disfigured by a conflict that ended 15 years ago. |
