Previous ExhibitionReliquary - Clive BrightJune 13th ~ July 3rd, 2009 A reliquary is a box or casket in which relics are kept. Clive Bright applies the term to the abandoned dwellings near his home in Counties Roscommon and Sligo. The 'relics' in this case are the interiors of the spaces themselves and the marks of decay wrought by decades of neglect. In a subversion of abstract painting, he carefully records their random scarring and disintegration. He reconstsructs the spaces as fragmented tapestries, littered with evidence of their former inhabitants. We see a ‘time-lapse’ image of the spaces – morning, afternoon and evening merged into one – as though the passage of time is not merely being recorded at a fixed point but is also being played out before us. Clive Bright is a graduate of the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. He was overall winner of the Golden Fleece Award in 2005. This is his first solo exhibition at The Molesworth Gallery. |
